How your hair looks is a reflection of your mood for the day and your overall style. Whether you prefer a traditional presentation or one designed to grab attention, you want to care for your hair to keep it healthy and strong. Once you have decided to grow it out, you will need to pay special attention to it to ensure success.
One of the best things you can do to grow your hair long is visit the salon for a trim regularly. Although it may seem counterintuitive, if you do not trim off the ends, you could end up with splits that reach far up the hair shaft. Four to six times each year, you should have a professional trim the bottom one-eighth of an inch from all of your hair.
Doing so will reduce split ends and maintain a smooth finish to the tips of your hair. When growing your hair out, you do not want to trim more frequently or you will have a difficult time adding length. Your hair only grows one-quarter to one-half of an inch each month!
Another important tip to remember when growing your hair out is to cut down on how often you shampoo. The components of most shampoos will break down the natural oils produced by your scalp. These oils are there to protect your head and hair. Removing them takes away a vital defense your locks have.
You should also use some type of warm oil treatment each week. This will help to keep the strands smooth and can nourish the scalp as well. Mix equal portions of castor, coconut and jojoba oil and apply to damp hair. Make sure to massage it into the scalp and to coat each strand. You can then wrap your head in a towel or otherwise keep it warm.
After half an hour, wash and style your hair as you normally do. The fats from the oils will help to seal and coat your hair. It should be easier to style and significantly softer as a result of the treatment.
You may also want to add some essential oil into the mix. Rosemary, cedarwood and sage are all helpful in promoting hair growth. Use ten to fifteen drops for each ounce of the above oil mixture. Make sure to keep it away from your eyes and mucous membranes.
For a lighter, floral fragrance, you can use chamomile essential oil. Another way to take advantage of this beneficial plant is to use chamomile tea to rinse your hair. On days that you do not wash, brew a couple of cups of tea and allow to cool. Rinse your hair under the shower and follow with the tea. This will help to keep your hair soft.
If you want to grow your hair out, you will need to take good care of it. Remember these tips and you will be well on your way to long, gorgeous locks you can be proud of!
